Named Variables

Named Variables

The inputs and outputs of the smart I/O modules are identified by user-given names.  These names are used by the controller to uniquely identify the specific input or output for data logging and automation purposes.  The term “variable” is used collectively for both the inputs and the outputs, since from the viewpoint of the controller, the values of the inputs and outputs are logical variables.

Note that each input and each output has a default name.  If the control unit has no more than one module of any given type, the default names would suffice.  However, if you connect more than one of a given type of I/O module, then the corresponding inputs and corresponding outputs will have the same default name.  In such cases, it is necessary to assign unique names to such inputs and outputs.
