Control Unit
A controller and the collection
of I/O modules connect to it are referred to as a logical control unit (see diagram).
A control unit is capable of communicating on the LAN, performing
automated tasks, and logging data.
The control unit defines the scope of named variables, data logging, and
automation.
The control unit may be viewed
as a logical entity that allows individual input/output information to be
accessed over the LAN. Each
control unit has a controller, and thus
a unique IP address. Up to 16
smart I/O modules may be connected to the
controller in various configurations.
The software contains many features that
allow access to the modules and their inputs and outputs.
